PAT Testing (Portable Appliance Testing)
An Important part of your Health and Safety Policy
As you are probably already aware it is a legal requirement that you as an employer have to maintain, inspect and test all portable electrical appliances at regular intervals. The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 places such an obligation where appliances are used by employees, where the public may use appliances in establishments such as hospitals, schools, hotels & shops etc, where appliances are supplied or hired and where appliances have been repaired or serviced.
The term ´portable´ is actually a misconception, the law requires that all ´moveable´ appliances be tested, inspected and maintained, and this is an important step towards satisfying your legal duty of care to protect employees and customers from harm in the workplace.
E.T.R. has the latest equipment and are qualified as required by the Health & Safety at Work Act & Electricity at Work Regulations to carry out formal visual inspection and testing of all your electrical appliances. We will issue you with a comprehensive log of all equipment tested and whether the appliance passed or failed. This is the most effective method for you as an employer to prove that appropriate measures have been taken to avoid accidents.
Minor repairs such as changing damaged plugs and leads, replacing incorrect fuses etc can if required, be done on the spot, you would usually only be charged for the replaced parts.
Sometimes re-testing at the required interval is forgotten or overlooked and equipment can deteriorate and become dangerous without realising, we can take the worry of that away from you by contacting you when your equipment is due for testing.
To make it even easier for you and to save time and money we will even visit work sites and test your employee´s equipment being used on site or stored in work vans. This means they will not have to waste time bringing the items to the office and hang around whilst they are being tested. We can visit your premises or sites at a time which is convenient for you and your employees and which will cause the least disruption to the working day.
Many insurance companies expect businesses to be compliant with all applicable regulations when insuring a business. An insurer may reduce, delay or even refuse to pay on a claim from damage if an appliance or installation that has not been tested has contributed to the damage.
Our rates are very competitive and we would be happy to visit you to discuss your needs in more detail. Why not give us a call to arrange a visit, you have nothing to lose except perhaps 10 minutes of your time.
